Highland DancersInverclyde starts the 2013 Highland Games season

The Scottish Highland Games season for 2013 starts in Inverclyde on Sunday 12 May at noon.

For Gourock Highland Games, traditionally the first games of the Scottish season, takes place on Sunday 12 May at noon in Gourock Park, George Road, Gourock.

And organisers are promising a packed programme for the games including heavyweight events, piping competitions and highland dancing. There will be a mini Highland games where young people from local primary schools will test their skills.

With children's entertainment the games is set to be a perfect day out for the whole family.

For the first time in the Games 57 year history the Chieftain has appointed an assistant. Inverclyde Provost Robert Moran will take on the role of chieftain and has also appointed a 'mini chieftain' from a local nursery. The role involves accompanying the Chieftain during his official duties and the mini-chieftain will officially open the mini-highland games.

Tickets for the Gourock Highland Games cost £5 (adult) £3 (concession) £14 (family ticket)
